HIV/AIDS Programs

Posted by kirbywilliams on 29th June 2010

Through educating people on about how HIV is spread and the precautions to take to prevent that from happening as well giving people the facts about HIV after its been contracted and how to interact with those that have the disease , the American Red Cross Public Health Education Division (PHE) helps save more lives by developing, evaluating, implementing and supporting innovative prevention programs that are easy to use and designed to reach a variety of audiences. They are based on the latest evidence of what makes health education programs effective.

What do ‘car donation, vehicle donation, auto donation, donate my car to charity and donate a car’ have in common with HIV/AIDS? Its simple the funds from vehicle donations help provide training and education about HIV/AIDS which leads to increased awareness which will hopefully lead to decrease in the amount of people affected . Programs will not exist if there are no funds . Stark and simple.

AIDS is a leading cause of death among Americans aged 25 to 44. By learning the facts about HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) and acting on them, we are not only able to protect ourselves, but we can protect others as well .

The Basic HIV/AIDS Program uses a variety of learning techniques in sessions specially designed for your community to help people: the fundamentals program delivers facts-based discussion to reinforce information about HIV transmission and prevention, dispel myths about HIV and AIDS, and help participants learn from their own experiences and those of others. Activities encourage people to apply the facts to their own behaviors. The prevention skills program gives practice on how to refuse invitations to have sex or use drugs. Role play can also equip them with ways to talk about using condoms before the situation arises.

Not only are these programs avalable but there is supporting material you might want either for personal reference or as a manual for answering many questions that your children or co-workers might have about HIV/AIDS once you have entered into discussion with them. There is an HIV/AIDS fact book and Reasons to Care: The Many Faces of HIV video uses a documentary style to show people living with HIV infection and the American Red Cross HIV/AIDS Education Folder features artwork representing the four American Red Cross HIV/AIDS programs: Basic, African American, Hispanic and Workplace.

Tips on Conducting Research on a Car Donation Fundraiser

Posted by kirbywilliams on 28th June 2010

One way that many charities raise money is by holding car donation fundraisers. Individuals who own vehicles that they no longer want or have no use for can allow them to be sold at fund-raising events so that the proceeds can go toward a charitable program or service.

The only downside to this is that not all fundraising events are held by honest organizations. As such, it takes a bit of research on the donor’s part to ensure that his or her donated car sells like it is supposed to, and that the proceeds are provided to a charity.

In order to determine whether or not the fundraiser campaign is held by a trustworthy organization, such as Goodwill Industries, the prospective donor should do the following:

• Do research on the fundraiser. Find out who is in charge and interview him or her. Look online to see if anything is written about the people in charge, whether it’s complaints or positive references.

• Add up all the numbers instead of going by percentages. Some fundraisers claim to give 100% of the proceeds to charity, but does that 100% represent the net AFTER all the fees and expenses are taken out?

• Make sure that the organization will give donors a copy of the receipt after everything is said and done. The charity should keep in touch with the donors even after the fundraising event takes place. If an organization takes off with the donated vehicles and is never heard from or seen again, that can obviously be a problem.

Doing appropriate research on a fundraising company is essential before one donates a car. These tips will help make the process worthwhile. Research can provide the donor with all the information they need to ensure their donation will help someone in need.

Car Donation To The Red Cross May Help Your Own Family During A Time Of Need

Posted by kirbywilliams on 27th June 2010

Many times people decide to donate to charity because they want to help someone less fortunate than themselves. Few people ever donate to charity with the thought that they may some day need help themselves. If you want to donate to a worthy cause, consider a car donation to the Red Cross because the Red Cross continues to help thousands of people each year. Though you may be thinking that ‘it’ could never happen to you, natural disasters are never expected and if you ever fall victim to one, the Red Cross will be there for you too. Vehicle donation is a great way to help someone in need right now and feel a sense of security knowing that your auto donation will be there for your own family if ever needed. Even if you are feeling the pinch of tough economic times, you can make a difference by donating your car to the Red Crss . Charities are all suffering from a drop in donations but Red Cross’ vehicle donation makes donating to a worthy cause possible for anyone with a car they no longer want.

While many charities and organizations do important work, the Red Cross’ services are life saving and unparalleled. The Red Cross’ primary goal is to make life safer for people and they do that through their force of volunteers who teach preparedness and prevention. But when disaster strikes, the Red Cross can be counted to be on the scene bringing relief, aid and support to victims suffering . Vehicle donation is a lifeline for the Red Cross as the donated auto they accept provides funding that keeps them strong. Since the Red Cross is not a government agency, they rely on people who can donate a car to help them provide basic essentials and the shelter that people have come to associate the Red Cross with. Your auto donation can mean the difference between being out in the cold or in the safety of a shelter with a bed and food for people who have lost their home to flood or fire. Just as you plan for the safety and security of your family in case of the ‘unthinkable’, your car donation to the Red Cross can be another step in your plan that will also help someone in need right now .

Playing Ball for Goodwill®

Posted by kirbywilliams on 27th June 2010

This past Sunday, the women’s basketball team of Frederick Community College played ball against West Virginia’s Potomac State College. Unlike the usual college basketball game, this game was a first ever. The tournament was a joint effort between Goodwill® and FCC to increase not only interest in the local team’s games but to bring attention to Goodwill’s® mission of bringing hope, jobs and a future to the communities they serve. The goal was for spectators to the game to bring material donations to the game . Though the group effort did not yield as many donations as they would have liked, the are aware that it’s the first weekend of games. The goal for Goodwill® was to get the word out that Goodwill® needs donations because this is their busiest time of the year. Aside from material donations, Goodwill® seeks auto donations from communities throughout the area to support their mission of providing employment, training and career services for the disabled and disadvantaged.

Though Goodwill® is most known for its Goodwill® stores, they are continuing to find ways to bring awareness to communities everywhere in efforts to keep their many critical programs available to those who need them. Goodwill® is a leading non-provider of teaching, training and career services for the disabled as well as those who are disadvantaged due to welfare dependency, homelessness or lack of education. Car donation has become another executable means of backing programs that help people go from disadvantaged to independent. Auto donation is not new to Goodwill® as they accepted donated autos from people more than thirty years ago. Today Goodwill® continues to rely on people who want to donate a car to charity. Goodwill’s® car donation program enables them to provide programs such as their Wheels to Work program going, providing low cost cars people who without auto donation would be unable to obtain a job. You need not attend any event in order to help Goodwill® reach out to the community. You need only call and say ‘donate my car’ and you can make a difference in someone’s life.

Goodwill Goes Trendy

Posted by kirbywilliams on 26th June 2010

Though most people would not think of Goodwill Industries right off hand when they think of the trendiest business plans out there, they surely deserve a mention in today’s business climate. The reason for that is because Goodwill is going trendy in an effort to relate to younger potential donors. Young people are some of the people most likely to make donations, so the new Goodwill plan is making it easier for young folks to get in the act.

If you are just out of college or still in school, it’s not likely that you are going to donate your car, but that does not mean that you have to stand on the sidelines. This is why Goodwill is changing their image a little bit, in an effort to charm you even if you can’t donate your car to the charity.

At Goodwill Industires, some of the best work goes on . These places are all over the place, and they represent another revenue stream for the charity. If you can’t donate your car to the charity effort, then you can at least spend a few dollars in the stores. This is what they are hoping for out of young people, and it is why they have filled the stores with lots of really nice, attractive stuff.

The stuff that you can buy in the Goodwill Industries stores is fairly retro right now, though. Vintage is the word that they like to describe their selection, and young folks seem to really like it. From old t-shirts to old jeans, there are some great items that might remind you of the 1980s. Even if your current situation doesn’t allow you to donate your car to charity, the stores can be a place for you to get into the act in a big way.

Goodwill Industries wants just about everyone to be involved, and because of that, they are doing more advertising of their “other” programs. Among them, the retro and vintage gear that you can buy are very important to the overall effort.

The IRS & Truck Donations – 3 Important Things To Know

Posted by kirbywilliams on 26th June 2010

Giving a truck to charity is a great alternative to selling. There are thousands of people in need in this country, and charities depend on the kindness of caring individuals to aid the less fortunate. Many events such as auctions are held often wherein the donated trucks, cars, and other vehicles are sold for charitable proceeds. Those who don’t have unwanted vehicles to donate can still contribute to the needy by attending the events and buying one of the used vehicles. The money, of course, will go toward services and programs of organizations such as Goodwill Industries.

Just as long as donors make absolutely certain that the truck donation program to which they’re donating is legitimate, then the procedure should go well.

When it comes to truck donations, here are some things that may help :

• Check to make sure that the charitable organization is qualified to receive tax deductible donations and contributions. Those wishing to donate to Goodwill Industries or Red Cross don’t need to worry so much about this.

• Be aware of the fact that non-cash contributions can lead to the IRS getting suspicious, so much in fact that they may even conduct an audit. For this reason, those who want to donate a truck should document its value and request a copy of the receipt after it’s sold through the charity event.

• It’s the donor’s job to get the truck professionally valued. If the IRS finds the figures on the paperwork to be inaccurate, they will go after the donor—not the charity.

Following these tips will ensure that everything will go smoothly for those wishing to donate trucks. It also gives you the satisfaction knowing that you donated a vehicle for a good cause.

Why You Should Donate a Car to Charity

Posted by kirbywilliams on 24th June 2010

If you have an extra car you don’t want anymore, there are options other than selling it. If you’ve never considered it before, donating a car to charity is one way to get rid of an extra car. You won’t get money for it, but there are other benefits to consider. Here are some reasons why you should donate a car to a charity like Goodwill Industries.

Tax Deductible

Donating a car to Goodwill Industries is a tax deductible contribution because they’re a non-profit organization. In the last few years, new laws have gone into place concerning donations of cars and tax deductions. From requirements for appraisals on vehicles to the total amount that you can claim, some things concerning donating vehicles for a tax deduction have changed over the years. You can rest assured that working with a company like Goodwill Industries, you’ll be taken care of and have the sometimes complicated process explained to you .

Making a Difference

Beyond the benefits you’ll receive from donating your car, the person who gets the car will benefit also . For all you know, your donation of a car might be the one thing that helps someone turn their life around. If you’ve ever wanted to make a difference in the world around you, donating a car to a charity like Goodwill Industries can go a long way in making someone’s life a lot better.

Feel Good

To be honest, one of the other reasons to donate your car is the feeling you get when helping others. An extra car may be no big deal to you , but for someone else, it could mean the world. You may never know who ends up getting your car, but you can be sure that if it’s a good charity, it’s going to go to someone who needs and deserves it. It’s a small thing, but the positive feelings you get from donating a car should be considered one of the benefits of donating your vehicle to a charity.
